Boumeester Wins Big in B-Mod Special!

Jared Boumeester made the approximately 3-hour drive to Rapid Speedway from Waseca, MN Friday night to take aim at the big payout for the B-Mod special. The feature started with a 3-wide battle into turn 1 with Boumeester, Dave Kennedy, and Jackson Mulder. Mulder would eventually emerge as the leader and set the pace. After multiple cautions Mulder would begin to slip away from the field leading by 2 lengths. On the next restart Boumeester would take his shot. The 81 would dive to inside of turn three and slide up the hill, but could quite get there. The next lap he would try it once again as the slider was not successful. Boumeester would choose the bottom line in turn 1 on lap 7 and pull even with Mulder as they raced down the backstretch. At the line it was Mulder by inches, only this time in turn one Boumeester would stick to the bottom and make the pass coming out of turn 2. Heading into turn three it was Mulder’s turn at the slide job, but as he slid up the hill Bousmeester dipped underneath and drove back to the lead. By this time Tyler Johnson had now joined the mix and made his way to batlle fo the 2nd position. Mulder slipped off the top of turn 4 and Johnson would claim the spot, while the two battle each Boumeester was able to get away and pick up the $600 payday. “Once we got going it was a lot of fun racing, said Boumeester in victory lane. “The track is a lot faster than it was last year.” Tyler Johnson would come home in 2nd, while Derek VanVeldhuizen charged from 12th to 3rd ahead of Dave Kennedy, and Tyler Tesch. Johnson, Boumeester, and Kennedy were the heat winners.
The Lems Auto Recyclers Sportsmans kicked off the evening’s features and would not disappoint. Brian Kroon got a great jump on the start coming from the second row to make a 3 wide battle into turn one and would escape turn two with the race lead. Unfortunately for Kroon a caution behind him would bring the yellow out and demand a complete restart. On the next attempt front row starter Tyler Bradley got the jump and would assume the race lead. Bradley had company as Andy Wieczorek would be glued to his back bumper. Wieczorek would bump, look high, look low, but could not get enough to pull out and make the move to get by Bradley. A caution flag for a flat front tire on Kroon’s car would bunch up the field once more with just 4 laps remaining. On the restart it was Wyatt Steenhoven who was the aggressor as he would make his way into 3rd and set his sights on the leaders. With two to go Steenhoven would make the charge into 2nd and on the white flag lap he would shoot around the top side of the racetrack and make the pass for the lead and go on to claim the first win of his career. “Those guys have done a great job working on this car and with the setup, and hopefully we can get back here again,” exclaimed the winner. 2nd place would go to Bradley with Marni Deboer, Brian Kroon, and Wieczorek rounding out the top five. The two heat races went to Deboer and Kroon.
The Sybesma Graphics Hobby Stocks saw 22 drivers take to the raceway for the A main event. On the start Eric Gaul of Luverne would grab the early lead with some great tight pack racing going on behind him including a 4 car battle for the 4th position. Well, with the tight pack of competitive cars there just wasn’t enough room as Marty Halouska and Alex Wiertzema got together coming out of turn 2. Both cars would slide off the back stretch with Halouska’s machine bouncing into the air and the coming down sliding into the deep ravine behind the raceway bring a red flag over the track. On the restart Gaul would assume the race lead with Tracy Halouska and Dustin Gulbrandson following. Gaul and Halouska working the high side while Gulbrandson tried to burn a line into the bottom of the track. It took until lap 10, but Gulbrandson finally got the run he needed and made his move. The 6 car would dive to the bottom in turn three overtaking 2nd and would pull side by side with Gaul as the got to the flag stand. Gulbrandson would grab the lead away in the first turn but a caution would come out negating the pass. On the restart Gaul would fall victim to the mental chess match as he went low in turn one to attempt the block, Gulbrandson seized the opportunity, flying around the highside and taking the lead out of two and driving away for his 5th win of the season. “I saw him go low and I hammered the top. I was just hoping not to slide off the backstretch,” said Guldbrandson. Gaul would settle for 2nd followed by Halouska. Doug Brinkhouse came home in 4th and Dylan Fitzpatrick drove from 15th to 5th. The three heat races were won by Gulbrandson, Halouska, and Nick Brady.
Fast and furious was the Precision Auto Body Stock Cars on Friday night. Current point leader Colten Arends would own the pole and look to win his 2nd feature in a row after last Saturday would jump out to the early lead, but Jon DeBoer would be hot on his tail. Just a few laps into the race DeBoer would show his power as he drove to the outside of Arends to take the lead bring with him the 5L of Dustin Larson. The 3 cars would be all over each other as the raced around the track and heading down the backstretch it was 3 wide for the lead. At that time Larson shot to the inside with DeBoer up to and Arends in the middle. Coming out of 4 Larson would have the lead and start to pull away. Behind the top three multiple cars were shuffling positions trading spots throughout the field while Larson kept extending his lead. A few cautions would keep the field close, but in the end it was Larson driving to his 4th win of the season. “Look what happens when the car doesn’t break!” exclaimed Larson as he climbed out of the car, noting his bad luck as of late. Arends would hang on to finish second ahead of hard charging Scott Overgaard coming from 15th to 3rd. DeBoer and Chad Lonneman would round out the top 5. Larson, Arends, Justin Regnerus were the heat winners.
